PREVENTING AND COUNTERING VIOLENT EXTREMISM

We carried out a three-day road show to speak against violent extremism, especially among the youth in Tana River. It was also concluded with a football tonourment in Tarasaa, among the teams participating included the RDU department. The winning team was awarded a trophy.

The activities took place from 1st - 3rd August 2018. Amani Fm took part in the 2017 elections.The key objective was to promote peace and tolerance throughout the election process in a region which had experienced inter-tribal violence over many years.

Outcomes:

In November 2017, Focus Group Discussion we're held with rival Pokomo and Orma groups to understand perceptions of the radio station and its programmes. They revealed that the station is already helping to promote dialogue between different ethnic groups and enhancing attitudes of peace.
